The work of Northeast Florida Builders Association Builders Care will be televised to a worldwide audience of more than 92 million households, with the launch of DeepLight Entertainment’s home makeover TV series, “Building a Difference.” The first year’s series will be about Builders Care, and after that additional shows will be filmed about Builders Care and other ministries that are making a difference in the lives of Northeast Florida residents, and throughout the world.
Since 2001, Builders Care has completed more than 700 projects. The construction ministry has repaired homes, built wheelchair ramps and constructed facilities for indigent elderly, the disabled and non-profit organizations who cannot afford these services. Builders Care was featured in an “Extreme Makeover” television show several years ago, and it very effectively spread the word about the Builders Care mission, said Bill Wilson, executive director of Builders Care. Soon after that show aired, Builders Care decided to produce their own show, and had it filmed by Jacksonville production company DeepLight Television. Seven shows have been shown locally for the past four years.
Trinity Broadcasting Network, an international broadcasting company, held a contest searching for a new program. DeepLight Entertainment Producer/Director Mick Richards submitted a show about Builders Care, a local church and community volunteers joining forces to remodel the home of a severely ill man, with a wife and six children. Richards also showed a Builders Care show about remodeling a home to make it more accessible for the parents of three children. Both the parents were severely injured and disabled in a motorcycle accident. Watching the builders, suppliers, subcontractors and volunteers provide the labor and resources for these projects, caught the attention of TBN.
“This is exactly the type of show they were looking for,” said Richards, who is a NEFBA member. Builders Care and other ministries soon will receive worldwide attention. “Our local TV show has made Builders Care a household name in Northeast Florida,” said Bill Wilson, Builders Care executive director. “I can’t imagine – given the huge success the shows had in Jacksonville – what a 90-million worldwide audience will do to us.” The first episode of “Building a Difference,” a home makeover TV series, will air noon Tuesday Feb. 10, and will continue to air noon Tuesdays and 6 a.m. Thursdays throughout the year. The local channel is Comcast Channel 13. So far, 16 episodes have been filmed, hosted by Chris Simons, Builders Care pastor/project leader. “We are proud to be able to feature the wonderful construction ministry of Builders Care and tell some of their beautiful stories of restored lives to inspire hearts around the world,” said Richards, the executive producer and director of “Building A Difference.” “I have been taping video presentations for this industry for nine years. When I do these shows, I get to tell the story about how the industry comes together and helps the city it helped build. And because of the wonderful things have happened and I am honored to be able to share that with the rest of the world.”
“Building A Difference: The First Volume” DVDs and soundtracks will be available in stores and online in March. For more information on Building a Difference, visit www.buildingadifference.com, and for more information on Builders Care, visit www.builderscare.org.
